PORCELAIN - PAPER AND PRINTA Meeting Masters Program with Charles Krafft and Jerry Bennett (USA)

Jerry Bennett (USA)Jerry Bennett is a leading exponent of Paperclay technology. He works uniquely combining wheel thrown and handbuilt elements of both paper porcelain and normal clay bodies. The quiet, restrained colours of his work complement the fine handbuilt structures he creates. Using slabs of rolled porcelain he cuts and joins these pieces in both functional and decorative objects. Small in scale these works create a feeling of monumentality - small scale sculptures of everyday use. His work is in many galleries and museums throughout the world and he is a resident artist at the Philadelphia Clay Studio, USA.
During his Meeting Masters workshops he will:
Demonstrate his individual method of constructing his functional ware.
Demonstrate and lecture on Paperclay technologies and working techniques
Discuss his philosophy and career works - slide presentation and lecture
Charles Kraft (USA)Using all the traditional materials of Dutch Delft painting, Charles Krafft brings the art solidly into the 20th century with the creation of art works that reflect our modern realities. Floods, fires, murders, Nazi atrocities and artisic angst rise up from these plates rather than quaint windmills and skaters dressed in ancient costumes. All art should be relevant to our lives and experiences or it will not extend our sense of reality and truth.
Charles Kraft is a leading exponent of silkscreen printing on ceramic. This technique gives him a highly individual approach to his work, which is both creative and conceptual. His political works range from commentary on the holocaust to an anti-war propaganda firmly in the tradition of John Hartfield and the photomontage movement of the 1930's.
His work is exhibited in many major museums throughout Europe and the USA.
During his Meeting Masters workshops he will:
Demonstrate his methods of originating images and screen printing decal techniques.
Discuss his philosophy and career works - slide presentation and lecture
Demonstrate and discuss techniques of making, casting and the presentation of his unique works.
The Symposium During the three week syposium, workshop participants will create new works, share information and learn new techniques through the formal and informal sessions, discuss the advances and developments in this relatively new and expanding field of ceramics through the series of slide shows and lectures from all the participants. The workshop culminates in an exhibition of the work created during the symposium in the Museum of the International Ceramics Studio.
